Boston's Trendiest Spots Right Now

Though Boston's history doesn't exactly shout trendy, a new wave of residents has made Boston into a melting pot for new trends. With new trends, come trendy people. I have been finding new spots recently, and am going to share them with you!

1. Envoy Rooftop

Though it may not be summer anymore, the Envoy Hotel bar on the roof is a new staple for locals and travelers alike. Many don't know that it is secretly run by Mariott. Combine a stellar view of
Boston with good drinks, cool people and original design detailing and you're bound to become the new hotspot! This place is on the Seaport and it isn't hard to find, just follow the beautiful people!(But it doesn't reopen until summer, unfortunately)

2. The Beehive

My heart has stayed with this spot for the last couple of months because my experience there was awesome. Though I wasn't going for the jazz music, I stayed because of it. Boston has a lack of good places with good music. How many cover bands of Aerosmith can you listen to anyways? Though some may call the fanfare here pompous, I found that the regulars seemed to be calm down to earth people. The food in itself is worth trying. Good luck finding a table here on the weekend!

3. Alden and Harlow

Some people believed that subterranean spaces in Boston would never work. Tell that to the guys at Alden and Harlow who have managed to make it the underground hibernation destination for hipsters looking for a good drink and even better food. It's like a museum for interior design. Check out the rejuvenated walls made of cabin wood! The staff here is exceptional, and the diners are a cool fusion of Harvard types and Boston's social elite.

4. The Fenway

It's hard for new people in Boston to grasp how big of a deal it is that the Fenway became such a go to destination in only a matter of a few years. Samuels, the mastermind developer has put Fenway on the Map as a hotspot in Boston. He blends a good amount of residential and commercial developments in the area, creatinga new urban landscape that sets a precedent for what is to come in Boston. For food catch Sweet Cheeks, Basho, or the brand new Tiger Mama (what a name). If you're visiting Boston, stay at the new Verb Hotel. Or just catch a movie at the Fenway Regal. You're bound to see cool cars, well dressed ladies & gents and some serious skyscraper action.

5. Barcelona Tapas Bar

They are a chain, but a good one. Serving the coolest tapas in Boston/Brookline (in my opinion) both locations are hopping every day of the week, but for a tight squeeze on the weekend check out the bar at the Brookline location. You might have to sell your arm and a leg for a place at the bar. But in my mind that's not such a bad thing, because the experience you get here is phenomenal. Spanish inspired food, wines and cocktails. There's good music on constantly and if you stay late enough you might catch some people dancing. The crowd is typically young, so if you're not into that upscale college thing, this might to be your place.

Hopefully you enjoyed this posting, and postings in the future. Check back for other new pieces soon.   Cheers, Josh

I love(hate) NYC

I have a love hate relationship with NYC. It is beautiful in a very unorganized, gritty way. But it provides the world with a lens into a diversified city, even if that is changing! Here are some of the interesting individuals I saw on the streets of NYC this past weekend.

Top 5 Men's Gilt Pieces Worth Buying Dec 18 (Holidays)

Online shopping can be daunting. Especially on sites where there are thousands of deals like Gilt. Gilt is an example of a new wave of distinctly fashionable websites that stock merchandise that businesses couldn't sell from top designers. Your first thought may be, "So why would I want this stuff" But the truth is shops buy too much of a piece all of the time, and many don't have a Nordstrom rack to send it to. So they send it to GILT.

I'm showing you ten pieces I think are worth buying this week while browsing through Gilt.

1. Tod's Footwear: Suede Driver

Original Price 544, Cut price: 488

Tod's are a staple in the world of luxury shoes. They've been making shoes since 1920. Having owned a pair I can say they are a great quality shoe that you can wear around the house, or for going out. Naturally, as they are suede, I don't recommend wearing them in the rain. Loafers, without socks was a big trend this summer, and it will definitely carry into next spring. Don't miss out on a chance to buy a classic shoe on sale!

2. Fred Perry Classic V Neck Sweater

Original Cost: 145 Sale Price: 65
I think everyone should have a classic v neck sweater. I personally own one of these, but made the mistake of throwing it in the regular wash! They're good to dress up, or down, and everyone knows Fred Perry. So if you're trying to cop some looks and stay classy (without looking like that brooks brothers guy) this is a great sweater. It is very thin, so its ideal for spring or early fall.

3. Canada Goose Expedition Hooded Parker

Original Price: 925 Sale Price: 799

Canada Goose can be seen everywhere recently. They've taken the winter jacket game by storm..... Haha. And for good reason. I bought one a while ago when they were much cheaper, but the price shouldn't scare you because the quality of these jackets is incredible. They have ample protection from the wind, they're made of a rugged material that you wont feel afraid to rough up (unlike those puffy moncler jackets) and they're very warm. These sell out quickly.

4.
Zanerobe Seven Plaid Sportshirt
Original Price: 119 Sale Price: 49

Plaid is really in this winter. You can dress it up with a nice sports jacket, or wear it on its own. Zanerobe has a good reputation for making mid level quality clothes with style. This is a classic, but with some flair. The plaid pattern is unique and interesting. The color can also go with most neutral colors!

5. Tom Ford Colin Aviator
Original Price 360 Sale Price 189

If Jay Z sings about it, its gotta be good! Tom Ford is a staple in men's design. The company made its fame off of men's suits, but his eyewear collection has always kept up with the trends. Luckily, Gilt has a few pairs right now at Ray Ban Prices. I chose these because they are true bahamian man glasses. They've got a look that will never go out of style, they have a flare with the tinted lenses and bar . Im also a fan because Tom Ford Designed the James Bond wardrobe, and everything they make from that point on is classss.

Conclusion: Gilt is a great resource for those who want couture designers at a more reasonable price. If you stay updated and know what you want you can get in and out quickly. But if you get sucked into a shopping spree, don't blame me! Hope you guys enjoyed these pieces. Stay tuned for more soon. Cheers, Josh

Top 3 Men's Stores Boston

It is sometimes difficult in a small city to find unique shops that carry great men's clothes. Boston, with its vicinity to New York is kind of stuck in the middle. There's enough of a college populace that cool clothes are needed, but not neccesarily enough cool stores to keep you going for hours. Instead of wasting your time jumping on the train and digging through the internet for resources I figure I can help. These are my three favorite stores in Boston for unique clothes.

1. Bodega
Location: Ask Around!

The notorious Bodega is located in the Berklee/ Newbury St area and has been in the game for a long time. Ask any hypebeast about it and they'll probably start drooling. They have a curated selection of all clothes, but their main focus is sneakers. They are notorious for having exclusive drops and collaborations. I have personally only bought a few items here, mainly hats. The stuff they carry is great quality and they really try to stay ahead of trends. If you want to stand in line for a sneaker drop you can do that there too. They also have a great online store, but the store is definitely worth a visit. I won't spoil it....you have to experience it for yorself. Don't be intimidated by the guys in the "lobby" they know what's up!

2. Orchard
Location: 156 Harvard Ave, Boston

I am a skater at heart, so this store is especially prevalent. Though they are a skate shop, and a great one at that, I come here for the great, relatively inexpensive and unique selection of clothes. They carry all types of gear, but they do a great job of keeping a theme. Mainly good quality stuff from medium sized companies that reflect skater culture. This is more important than ever for men's fashion as in recent years vans and skateboards have adorned fashion shows. Check out this years ny fashion show. I love the staff as they aren't overbearing and they love what they do. Plus for the skateboard bowl in the back and art gallery. Keep it up guys!

3. The Tannery
Location: Multiple

Here is a true Boston staple for fashion. They were carrying brands no one was 10 years ago, and for that they are on my list. They keep it classy, and as such, you are going to spend some serious cash if you go here. They are stocking top shelf designers, but only the good ones. This shop would be better if the staff were't trying to nag you for commision, and ignore you at the same time! If you want to buy something unique, great quality, designer and chic, come here. I've bought shoes from them, and as of recent their shoe selection has deteriorated. The plus side is they carry great mens pants, which can be a struggle sometimes. It's like a better department store, but don't expect sales!
If you want to people watch this is also a great place for that, the finest of Boston's shoppers end up here.

New Shop!
SizeRun
Location: 355 Boylston St, Brookline

I'm mostly adding this because it is in Brookline and I am living in Brookline. They literally just opened this week, and I stopped in for a minute to check out their supply. The shop is neatly laid out, they carry exclusive collectors shoes, supreme gear and some other random stuff. I wasn't too impressed with the inventory, but I'm not a street fashion guru, so I wouldn't know. Happy to see someone doing something different in the nighborhood. They were also carrying some north face collaboration, it looked cool, but expensive for what it was. If you like supreme and collect sneakers this place is worth a visit! Follow them on instagram @sizerunsupply.

Conclusion: Boston is not New York. But it does have some great options for men's clothing if you live in the area. I appreciate the hard work local guys are doing to keep Boston from going all chain stores. An honorable mention goes to Concepts in Cambridge, look them up. Hope you guys enjoyed this list, stay tuned for more. Cheers, Josh
